Mayor R.J. Keller?
- This is a defining moment for Keller. Will he become a great mayor, or he will be forever known as R.J. Berry’s third term?
- APD Chief Mike Geier, District Attorney Raul Torrez and the district court judge should publicly apologize to this child.
- The time has come for Mayor Keller to thank Geier for his service and retire him.
- To correct the mess that our criminal justice system in Albuquerque is in, local attorneys need to find the courage to run against Torrez in the next election.
What can Albuquerque do to remedy this horrible violation of Gisell Estrada freedom? What can we do to ensure another innocent person is not place into jail?
Gilbert Gallegos and Michael Patrick should publicly apologize for their idiotic statements. If they came up with these statements on their own, they should resign. If someone at APD and the DA office told them to spew this stupidity, they should publicly expose who it was, and those people should resign.
APD Chief Mike Geier, District Attorney Raul Torrez and the district court judge should publicly apologize to this child.
This is not going to happen. These people have lost the basic human emotion of compassion and regret.
This false incarceration happened a month ago and all three have been silent since. If they haven’t found the personal human decency and compassion to publicly apologize to this child for the harm their agencies have caused, they certainly won’t find the courage from reading this column.
It is disgusting that Geier and Torrez, instead of personally apologizing, allow their PIO’s to spew falsehoods and finger pointing. It’s disappointing that the court and the specific judge have remained silent. Are these people so concerned about their political careers that they can’t do the right thing and just tell Gisell, “I apologize for the harm caused you, we were wrong, I am sorry.”
To correct the mess that our criminal justice system in Albuquerque is in, local attorneys need to find the courage to run against Torrez in the next election. If you care about our community and about our rule of law, it is time to get in the game. Clearly we need a better district attorney.
At APD the time has come for Mayor Keller to thank Geier for his service and retire him. How many times will Keller stand with Geier at a press conference and announce something, only to have to do another press conference and retract it days or weeks later?
The list of Geier’s missteps and poor management is long. His defense of APD not acting to protect the 7-year-old child with bloody underwear, refusing to terminate his Internal Affairs commander who was caught tampering with public documents, ignoring a civilian oversight board who recommended terminating his PIO for time sheet irregularities, his inability to reverse the crime epidemic and his numerous press conferences with Keller where they produced inaccurate crime stats. Now we have Geier’s homicide unit, again, jailing a completely innocent child and Geier not even saying he is sorry.
This is a defining moment for Keller.
Will he become a great mayor, or he will be forever known as RJ Berry’s third term? Keller must find the resolve that he is not here to be liked by all, he is here to efficiently run Albuquerque and hold his employees accountable for their misdeeds. The minute Keller figures this out, his term as mayor gets better. If he never figures it out, well as I said, he will be known as R J Berry’s third term.
Come on Tim, tap into your inner Marty Chavez and kick some ass, please.
Finally, the Administration of the Courts needs to independently investigate the entire Gisell Estrada fiasco. From top to bottom, in open hearings for all the public to see, we need to know why a completely innocent child was taken from her home and placed in jail for a crime that she had nothing to do with. We must publicly know the mistakes made, who made them and what is going to be done to ensure they never happen again.
Albuquerque citizens must demand a better police department, a better district attorney office and better judges. We must demand transparency and accountability from our public servants.
My God people, they locked up a totally innocent child for murder! This must be fixed, now!]
Or be prepared that the next innocent person put into jail will be you or your children.
